It is not possible to gain control over your rizq.
Control is an illusion. Tawakkul is the key.
Assalamu'alaikum wr wb my dear friend!
Here are 2 Ideas, A Verse to Reflect Upon & One Question for you 👇
Two Ideas this week
1. We are not in control, Allah is.
We live in an age obsessed with control.
Control over income, career, success and outcomes.
And in the pursuit of control, we sometimes forget that our rizq,
our sustenance, provision, everything we are meant to receive in this life…
is not something we determine, but something Allah grants.
Allah mentions in the Quran:
There is no moving creature on earth whose provision is not guaranteed by Allah. And He knows where it lives and where it is laid to rest. All is ˹written˺ in a perfect Record.
Surah Hud 11:6
And also:
To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth. He extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is, of all things, Knowing.
Surah Ash-Shura 42:12
And also:
Indeed, your Lord extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is ever, concerning His servants, Aware and Seeing.
Surah Al-Isra 17:30
There are also hadiths that support the understanding of rizq as a decreed measure for us before we are created.
But why does Allah decree for us our rizq?
It is because Allah is Ar-Razzaq, He is the Provider for all things. Knowing that Allah has already appointed for us rizq, gives us the comfort and relief from anxieties. It helps us detach from worldly fears and obsessions over provisions.
2. Understanding Rizq vs effort.
We don’t control rizq.
But we manage the effort.
Allah manages the outcomes.
An interesting story when Maryam a.s was giving birth to Prophet Isa (peace be upon him), was told:
And shake the trunk of this palm tree towards you, it will drop fresh, ripe dates upon you
Surah Maryam 19:25
Could Allah have sent her fruits without her effort?
Surely.
But Allah also has made it such that we have to strive towards goodness.
Knowing that Allah determines rizq is not meant to stop us from putting in the effort, but instead it is part of His Mercy and Wisdom so we have tawakkul in Allah regardless of our circumstances.
In the Quran Allah mentions:
Tell ˹them, O Prophet˺, “Do as you will. Your deeds will be observed by Allah, His Messenger, and the believers. And you will be returned to the Knower of the seen and unseen, then He will inform you of what you used to do.”
Surah At-Taubah 9:105
Allah tells us that we have the free will to do good deeds. That we have the ability to manage our efforts in striving and Allah is observing these deeds.
Our task is to strive and put in the effort. Allah determines the outcome. Allah determines our rizq.
A Verse to Reflect Upon
And we will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,
who when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”
They are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are rightly guided.
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:155-157
It is interesting how Allah speaks about receiving blessings and mercy and guidance together with the test and the answer to the test.
Reading this gave me the though that, hey, isn’t the best rizq is being able to rely upon Allah knowing He will sustain us regardless of what happens? And that at some point we may grow too old and sick to eat, yet because we trust in Allah so much, that we see the rizq as being able to return to Allah in a state of hoping from Him.
On the other hand, how many people would start to complain when Allah just withholds one thing from their life?
One Question for you
If Allah were to restrict your rizq, do you see it as a blessing or hardship?
Sometimes we only see an addition of provision = blessings.
But this is not true. How many a people have gained more in dunya at the expense of their akhirah?
Most world leaders don’t even have to think about hunger, yet how many of their souls are empty and lost into the delusion of dunya. While our brothers and sisters in Palestine are hungry yet they still hold firm onto their faith.
A closing dua for this week’s post for Palestine & all those who are oppressed -
Ya Allah forgive us for our sins, our major ones and minor ones. Let not our sins be a barrier from You accepting our prayers. Ya Allah, protect the people of Palestine, envelop them with your mercy, Ya Rahman, Ya Rahim… and replace their fear and anxiety with peace and calmness. Ya Allah, aid those who are oppressed in Palestine, and those who are oppressed wherever they may be. Ya Allah there is no aid but your aid, no power except You, Ya Hayyu, Ya Qayyum, You are The Sustainer, You are the Provider, We worship You and You Alone, so help us muslims, and grant us victory over the disbelievers, the oppressors and all those against You and Your Messenger. Indeed you are over all things competent.
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Rabbana ātinā fī-d-dunyā ḥasanah wa fī-l-ākhirati ḥasanah wa qinā ʿadhāba-n-nār.
Ameen. Ya Rabbal Alamin.
