Assalamu'alaikum wr wb my dear friend!
Here are 2 Ideas, A Verse to Reflect Upon & One Question for you 👇
Two Ideas from me
1. Dunya is not for Dunya
Most of what we see on social media revolves around Dunya for Dunya. The endless chase for education, career, travelling, luxury and retirement.
These things are important for survival but the reality is:
That education will end when we start working.
That career will end when we grow old.
That travelling will end when our bodies are too weak to travel.
Luxury and retirement ends when we reach our graves.
Everything is fleeting in dunya, we cannot bring our qualifications, wealth, status or possessions with us to the grave. But what will follow are our good deeds (and bad ones too).
We can still make education, career, travelling, luxury and retirement a means for our akhirah if they are done with the right intention and aligns with Islamic principles, ultimately benefitting ourselves and the ummah.
Dunya is for Akhirah.
So instead of letting dunya dictate our priorities, let’s reflect during this Ramadan on how to structure our lives around what truly matters: building our eternal home in Jannah.
2. The Governance of Society
From the moment we are born, society places systems, milestones and expectations on us. While this has enabled the society to function, they can also make us blindly follow the ride without assessing whether our lives are aligned with the deen.
How do we counter this?
Deepen our understanding of the stories in Quran - because we will find the rich history of the different types of people. Those who were blessed, or cursed by Allah, and what traits and character do successful muslims have.
Piece up history: How did we reach this century, how has human civilisation reached here. While it may sound boring, history presents us many powerful lessons for us to understand ourselves and the way the world works. Just about 50 years ago people communicated so differently than today.
Wake up from the illusion of “progress”. We have technology, but that doesn’t mean we are the most advanced society. We have medical advancements, yet mental health disorders are at an all-time high. We have information and generative AI at our fingertips, yet truth is harder to find. We claim to be more civilised, yet people target women, children and civilians… something even pre-modern societies had ethical boundaries against.
Dunya has a system designed for dunya. Our deen is designed for success in both realms. We have to intentionally design our lives around what will matter when we stand before Allah on the Day of Judgement.
A Verse to Reflect Upon
And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to some categories of them as being but the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring.
Surah Taha 20:131
Scrolling on social media, we can see how people may seemingly have the best lives. Whether they travelled to dream destinations, or have been blessed with the best looks and achieved the best career with no financial issues…
Allah reminds us through the Quran, not to extend our eyes because He knows that it may corrupt us by thinking negatively of Him or that we go chasing after dunya. Then Allah mentions how wealth in dunya is a test.
And the verse ends reminding us that His provision is better, and everlasting.
One Question for you
Have you ever spent wealth on things that might have displeased Allah?
We often think more wealth = more blessing. But having wealth is also be a test. Even just a few dollars is enough spend on haram or wasteful things, what more if we are given huge wealth.
