Assalamu'alaikum wr wb my dear friend!
Here are 2 Ideas, A Verse to Reflect Upon & One Question for you 👇
Two Ideas this week
1. The crowd is conditioned to follow dunya.
What age you should start school.
What days you should be working.
When you should retire.
How much you should be earning as a fresh graduate.
If we live in a city, we are probably conditioned to follow these worldly standards and milestones without much questioning.
… But are these systems truly ideal for our akhirah?
That depends. Are we are fulfilling our purpose, or simply trying to meet worldly expectations?
This misalignment is not just limited to worldly affairs, but even in prayer or ibadah.
Two people can be praying side by side, yet their rewards may differ vastly.
Why? Because one is truly present, focused and khuysoo’. Who is more learned about every aspect of prayer, while the other is just distracted and going through the motions without connecting to Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
Verily, a man may return from his prayer and nothing good is written for him but a tenth of his prayer, or a ninth, or an eighth, or a seventh, or a sixth, or a fifth, or a fourth, or a third, or a half.
Sunan Abu Dawud 796
The same is true for our worldly affairs.
Two people might graduate at the same age, follow the same career path, and live in the same city… yet only one is truly oriented in his or her life and deen.
Perhaps that person was working hard for the sake of Allah with hopes to support their family or child’s education, while the other was just working out of mere fear of being left behind in career progression or by pressure to meet societal definitions of success.
So what matters is the how and why we do things.
It’s not about “escaping the system“, but about living with awareness, consciousness and critical thinking. To live purposefully with taqwa, and constantly realigning our intentions toward the One who created us.
For some that may mean being a full time caregiver, for others it might mean having to work an extra job.
It could mean taking a risk to start a new business.
… And it could even mean taking a break to learn the important foundations of the deen first.
Remember: Do not simply follow the crowd.
2. When Allah mentions “akthar-nas“ (most people) in Quran…
It almost always comes with a negative connotation.
Most people do not show gratitude:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ…
“… Indeed, Allah is full of bounty to the people, but most of the people do not show gratitude.”
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:243
(See also Surah Yunus 12:38, Surah Furqan 25:50, Surah Ghafir 40:61)
Most people do not believe in the truth, in Allah:
إِنَّهُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ…
“… Indeed, it is the truth from your Lord — but most of the people do not believe.”
Surah Hud 11:17
(See also Surah Yunus 12:103, Surah Ar-Rad 13:1, Surah Ghafir 40:59)
Most people do not know:
وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
But most people do not know.
Surah Ar-Rum 30:30
(See also Surah Saba 34:28, 34:26, Surah Ghafir 40:57, Surah Al-Jasiyah 45:26)
This occurs so many times in the Quran, it is a wonder why despite Allah' sending us divine scripture, prophetic guidance and the clarity of truth…
that majority will still turn away, choose distraction, or live in heedlessness.
Allah does not force us to belief, but instead the Quran appeals to the heart, mind and soul as an invite to reason, reflect and choose truth willingly.
So what do these Quranic patterns tell us?
Being in the majority doesn’t mean being right.
… And that seeking Allah truly and humbly is a path walked by few.
A Verse to Reflect Upon
Have they not reflected upon their own being? Allah only created the heavens and the earth and everything in between for a purpose and an appointed term. Yet most people are truly in denial of the meeting with their Lord!
Surah Ar-Rum 30:8
It is strange, how we are such complex beings — and there are just too many miracles about the human mind and body that make us who we are.
Yet, sometimes we may not internalise that our bodies will be re-assembled in akhirah. How scary the Day of Judgement (yawm al-qiyamah) will be.
But what scares me most is that …
Am I ready to meet Allah? …
One Question for you
Think about every thing that you do today, are they influenced by your purpose or by the crowd?
Sometimes it doesn’t have to be a whole crowd, we are also highly influenced by our friends too. Read our previous post on: How to find “friends till Jannah?“
